Marissa (Geneva Carr) is getting a blast from the past on this week's episode of Bull, when her college boyfriend, played by Tom Lipinski, finds himself at the center of a malpractice lawsuit.

Viewers may recognize Lipinski from his previous roles on Blindspotand The Knick, but here he's playing Dr. Terrence "Terry" Robeson, an egomaniacal gynecological surgeon whose God complex may have rendered a woman infertile. And let's just say he's not the type of client who's going to endear himself to the jury.

"What we learn about Marissa in this episode is her fallibility as a woman in love. Because I think that she's still in love with [Terry] in a lot of ways," Carr tells "She's like every other woman that has fallen down the rabbit hole of either a dangerous relationship or a relationship that just doesn't have hope. And she gave that guy too many tries."

The cast of Bull psychoanalyzes Michael Weatherly

Though their personalities are at odds, Terry and Dr. Bull (Michael Weatherly) do have some traits in common, namely their brilliance. And spending time with her ex reinforces for Marissa not only the bond of friendship that she and Bull have, but also the knowledge that she and Bull would never work as a romantic pair.

"The person who helped her out of that relationship was actually Dr. Bull. Bull's the one that got her back on her feet when that one was pretty much gonna knock her down," Carr says. "It's really touching, the relationship that she and Bull have, how deep it is and how he knows her deepest faults but he still forgives her."

Carr says she would welcome the opportunity for Lipinski to recur as Terry (even though that might spell trouble for Marissa). "Both Michael and I really want him back," she says. "He was so fun to work with. ... We want him to come back as one of our doctor experts in a case."
