Bruno Mars' mother died unexpectedly Saturday after suffering a brain aneurysm in Hawaii, The Associated Press reports.

Bernadette Hernandez was 55 years old and died at Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, a representative from Mars' record label told the AP.

Hernandez was a hula dancer and a singer who emigrated to Hawaii from the Philippines. She fostered her now Grammy-winning son's interest in music from an early age, the AP reports.

Mars is set to kick off a world tour on June 22. However, it's unclear how his mother's passing will affect his schedule.
