Brian Geraghty, who plays Det. Sean Roman on Chicago P.D., won't be returning to the show for Season 4, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

Geraghty's exit puts the final nail in the coffin for the fledgling romance between him and Burgess (Marina Squerciati). After deciding to leave the police force, Roman, who was shot two weeks ago, had asked Burgess to move with him to San Diego, but on Wednesday's season finale, as Roman marked his last day at CPD, they came to the mutual decision that she would stay in Chicago.

Chicago P.D. showrunner Matt Olmstead told TVLine, which was the first to report the news, that Geraghty, who joined the drama in Season 2, had a year-to-year deal and decided to exit the show in order to pursue other projects. "He's also a producer and wants to get stuff off the ground that he's been working on and wanted to give us a heads-up and include us in the conversation," Olmstead said. "It was the most civil, level-headed, mutual fan-fest agreement and departure that I've ever been a part of, because he was just very decent about it. ... He gave us what we needed — two years of doing a really good job on a character that elevated the show. We shook hands at the beginning, we shook hands at the end, and he's off to do great things, I'm sure of it."

NBC did not immediately respond to an email from TVGuide.com.
