Bret Michaels' run-in with some scenery at the Tony Awards fractured his nose and required stitches in his lip, but the rocker was able to laugh it off.
"He told me, 'All I remember is Shrek and the donkey helping me up, and Liza [Minnelli] giving me a towel,'" Michaels' rep, Joann Mignano, told People. "And Bret was laughing when he heard [host] Neil Patrick Harris said he gave new meaning to 'headbanging.'"
The Rock of Love star was exiting the stage Sunday after performing with his band, Poison, when he was hit with a piece of scenery and knocked to the ground. The band performed  a rendition of its hit, "Nothin' But a Good Time" with the cast of Rock of Ages. (Watch the video here.)
Michaels had X-Rays taken and underwent a CAT scan Monday to be on the safe side, Mignano said. "His neck was hurt in an accident years ago, so he's being cautious," she said. "He said he wanted to make sure this was all looked at and taken care of, and I said it was the right thing to do."
Michaels' rep also said reports that the accident was caused by Michaels missing his mark are inaccurate. "He did exactly what they asked him to do in rehearsal, where everything went fine. And when the sign came down [at the show], it smacked him on the head."
Michaels, who is currently on a solo tour, will be taking it easy for a few days, perhaps even canceling a show. "We'll see," Mignano said. "Bret is a tough son of a bitch, but he's really banged up."
