Johnny and Shannon's love story is officially coming to Amazon Prime Video

Nancy Surridge, Conor Sánchez, James O'Donoghue, and Sophie McGibbon, Boys of Tommen
Prime VideoAnother viral BookTok series is coming to Amazon Prime Video. Deadline broke the news in February that the streamer's international arm had nabbed the rights to Chloe Walsh's Boys of Tommen series. The four actors who will take on the main leads of the series were announced in May, confirming that this train is leaving the station and book fans will see their favorite students at Tommen College brought to the small screen sooner rather than later.
Walsh's series covers the coming of age of Shannon Lynch and her friends as they attend the prestigious private school, Tommen College, in the fictional Ballylaggin, Ireland. After being ruthlessly bullied at her local public school, Shannon transfers to Tommen and instantly grabs the attention of rugby star Johnny Kavanaugh. The two start a whirlwind romance that forces them to both come clean about dark secrets: Johnny is hiding a potentially career-hindering injury, and Shannon is trying to survive a turbulent homelife.
More on Amazon Prime Video:
The series is inspired by Walsh's upbringing in Cork, Ireland, and the athletes she grew up around. The series is the latest in a string of popular BookTok series adaptations for Amazon Prime Video. After the success of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Prime Video has produced Off Campus (based on the Elle Kennedy book series), Every Year After (based on Carley Fortune's Barry's Bay books), and Maxton Hall (from Mona Kasten).
Boys of Tommen is still in early development but here's everything we know about the international series so far.
The official logline reads: "Boys of Tommen follows the forbidden love story of Johnny Kavanagh, the star rugby player on the verge of a pro career, and Shannon Lynch, the talented but painfully shy new girl at the prestigious private school of Tommen College in Ballylaggin, Ireland. Both teenagers are hiding secrets; Johnny, a potentially career-ending injury, and Shannon, a troubled and violent home life. Through their secret and highly charged connection, the two teens from opposite worlds battle against the odds and find a way to save each other."
Amazon Prime Video has secured the rights to the first two books in the Boys of Tommen series, Binding 13 and Keeping 13. That covers Johnny and Shannon's love story. However, there are four more books in the series: Saving 6, Redeeming 6, Taming 7, and Releasing 10.
Saving 6 and Releasing 10 are prequels to the first two books in the series. The former is from Shannon's brother Joey's perspective, and Releasing 10 is about Shannon's friends Lizzie and Hugh before she joins them at Tommen. The fourth book, Redeeming 6, follows the same timeline as Shannon's books but is also from Joey's perspective. It remains to be seen if Amazon will grab the rights to these other books to adapt for future seasons or to incorporate them into the Binding 13 and Keeping 13 adaptations.
No! You would think they would be similar because Boys of Tommen is also about the romantic lives of athletes (in this case, rugby instead of hockey). However, the characters in Boys of Tommen are younger than the leads in Off Campus and it covers darker material, so it is much more firmly planted in the drama genre than the rom-com tone of Off Campus. If you are going to read the books before the premiere, definitely take a look at the trigger warnings first (each book in the series has them).
Production is set to begin this year, so fans are hopeful that we'll get the first season in 2027. Prime Video has not announced an official release date yet.

Nancy Surridge, Conor Sánchez, James O'Donoghue, and Sophie McGibbon, Boys of Tommen
Prime VideoIn May, Prime Video announced what we were all waiting for: the actors who will be playing the four leads in Boys of Tommen. Four relatively unknown Irish actors were cast as Shannon, Johnny, Joey, and Aoife. In late June, eight more cast members were announced.
Amazon Prime Video has ordered eight episodes for the first season.
Poppy Cogan, who previously adapted A Good Girl's Guide to Murder for Netflix, is penning the scripts for Boys of Tommen Season 1. Brendan Canty is set to direct the first episode and Walsh will also executive produce.
