Bad reviews didn't keep audiences away

Despite receiving nearly universal bad reviews from critics, the faith-based film War Room emerged as a formidable force at the box office this weekend and almost knocked Straight Outta Compton out of first place.

War Room did top Compton on Friday, but the final weekend totals were $13.2 million for Compton and $11 million for War Room, Box Office Mojo reports.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and newcomer No Escape landed in third and fourth places with $8.3 million and $8.28 million, respectfully, while Sinister 2 came in at No. 5 with $4.6 million.
