Box Office: Prisoners Debuts at No. 1

The Hugh Jackman/Jake Gyllenhaal thriller Prisoners won the box office in its debut weekend, bringing in $21.4 million, Box Office Mojo reports.

The Hugh Jackman/Jake Gyllenhaal thriller Prisoners won the box office in its debut weekend, bringing in $21.4 million, Box Office Mojo reports.

Last week's top film, Insidious Chapter 2, fell to second place with $14.5 million, while The Family also fell a spot to No. 3 with $7 million.

Mexican comedy Instructions Not Included, which has been a surprise hit this summer, jumped from sixth place to fourth, earning $5.7 million in its fourth week.

The 3D dance movie Battle of the Year brought in a disappointing $5 million, enough for a fifth-place finish in its opening weekend.

We're the Millers held strong in its seventh week in theaters, landing at No. 6 with $4.7 million, while The Butler finished in seventh place with $4.3 million. Riddick fell to eighth place with $3.7 million.

The Wizard of Oz 3D opened in ninth place with $3 million. Closing out the Top 10 was Planes ($2.9 million).
