Madagascar 3 Lands No. 1 Spot in Weekend Box Office

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted debuted at No. 1 in the weekend's box office, with an impressive $60.4 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted debuted at No. 1 in the weekend's box office, with an impressive $60.4 million, according to Box Office Mojo. Featuring the voices of David Schwimmer, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller and Jada Pinkett Smith, the computer-animated comedy upset its competitor, Prometheus, which netted $50 million in its opening weekend. The sci-fi film, starring Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender, was directed by Ridley Scott, and written by Lostco-creatorDamon Lindelof.
Despite its strong debut last weekend, Snow White and the Huntsman dropped to No. 3 with just $23 million this weekend, down from $56.2 million.

Men in Black 3 came in fourth, grossing an estimated $13.5 million. Superhero film The Avengers held strong at No. 5 with $10.8 million, driving its total gross to $571.9 million.The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, based on the 2004 novel and starring Judi Dench, came in a distant sixth with $3.2 million. Rounding out the top 10: What to Expect When You're Expecting(No. 7, $2.7 million); Battleship (No. 8, $2.3); The Dictator (No. 9, $2.2 million); and Moonrise Kingdom (No. 10, $1.6 million).
