Box Office: Guardians of the Galaxy Is the Highest-Grossing August Movie Ever

Guardians of the Galaxy became the highest-grossing August movie ever this weekend. The movie took in $10.2 million, bringing its total to $294.6 million, and stayed at No. 1 for the fourth time. But overall, this was the lowest-grossing week at the box office in two years, according to Box Office Mojo.

Guardians of the Galaxy became the highest-grossing August movie ever this weekend. The movie took in $10.2 million, bringing its total to $294.6 million, and stayed at No. 1 for the fourth time. But overall, this was the lowest-grossing week at the box office in two years, according to Box Office Mojo.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and If I Stay also held steady, finishing in second and third place with $6.5 million and $5.7 million, respectively.

Let's Be Cops and The November Man each rose a spot, to Nos. 4 and 5 with $5.4 million and $4.2 million, respectively.

At No. 6 was As Above/So Below, whose $3.72 million was enough to edge out When the Game Stands Tall, which ended the weekend in seventh place with $3.7 million.

Rounding out the Top 10 were The Giver (No. 8, $3.5 million), The Hundred-Foot Journey (No. 9, $3.2 million) and Lucy (No. 10, $1.9 million).

The week's only new release, the faith-based film The Identical, bombed with just $1.9 million, finishing in 11th place.
