Box Office: Big Hero 6 Beats Out Interstellar

Christopher Nolan's much-anticipated new film Interstellar failed to win the box office in its opening weekend. The Matthew McConaughey flick grossed $50 million, but was edged out by the animated family film Big Hero 6, which also opened this weekend and earned $56.2 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

Gone Girl followed in No. 3 with $6.1 million moving up a spot over last week and, barely beating out last week's No. 1 film, Ouiji ($6 million), which fell three spots to No. 4. 

Billy Murray's St. Vincent rose from No. 7 to No. 5 with $5.7 million, while Jake Gyllenhaal's Nightcrawlerfell from No. 2 to No. 6 with $5.5 million.

Fury ($5.5 million), John Wick ($4 million), Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day($3.5 million) and The Book of Life ($2.8 million) rounded out the top ten.
