The NBC affiliate in Boston that said it would rather air a newscast than Jay Leno's new primetime talk show has changed its mind.
Though WHDH-TV owner Ed Ansin originally said running Leno's show "will be very adverse to our finances," the affiliate — "upon further consideration" — will air Leno's program at 10 pm/ET beginning in September, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
"Jay is from Andover, where I went to school," Ansin said in a statement. "I enjoy his humor. We hope the new show is a big success."
When WHDH made the original announcement, the station received boycott threats from local Leno fans. NBC threatened to strip the station of its affiliation and warned of possible legal action. But now network and affiliate have made up.
"We are very pleased that WHDH will carry Jay Leno's new primetime comedy show," John Eck, president of NBC TV Network said. "We look forward to working closely with the station on a successful launch in Boston of this show, featuring one of the most bankable stars in the business."
Do you think WHDH did the right thing?
