The Borgias may not be coming back for a fourth season, but that doesn't mean fans can't find out how the Showtime series was supposed to end.

The Borgia Apocalypse: The Screenplay was released Tuesday as a new e-book available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Smashwords. Written by series creator Neil Jordan, the e-book is based on Jordan's two-hour finale script for the acclaimed drama.

Cult shows that deserve a movie

The Borgias, starring Jeremy Irons as Pope Alexander VI, followed Rodrigo Borgia's infamous Renaissance-era family during his reign as head of the Catholic Church. It lasted three seasons before Showtime pulled the plug in June. Although there had been some talks of a final movie to wrap up loose ends, Showtime President David Nevins said at the Television Critics Association's fall previews last month that it did not work out financially to bring Jordan's script to life. "We looked hard at doing a two-hour finale," he said at the time. "The economics didn't make sense so we didn't move forward. We felt it came to a good stopping place."
