Where's Olivia Pope when you need her? Body of Proof's ambitious chief medical examiner and congressional candidate Kate Murphy (Jeri Ryan) hasn't even been elected yet and she's already facing her first potential scandal on this week's episode (Tuesday, 10/9c, ABC). While making an appearance at a ritzy Russian political gala, Kate strikes up a conversation with a tall, dark, secretive Ukrainian attaché named Sergei Damanov (Ivan Sergei). "Sergei and Kate have this very steamy, very passionate thing," Ryan says. "And then it gets complicated."
That's a major understatement. After a tryst in Sergei's hotel room, Kate discovers he may have shot and killed a woman during the night — which, if true, is not going to go over well at the ballot box. Luckily Kate has office frenemy and brilliant medical examiner Megan (Dana Delany) to help her uncover what really happened. "She wants to keep it as private as she can, but she's in over her head," Ryan explains. "All signs" — including one of Sergei's shirts soaked in the victim's blood — "point to him being the killer."
Just don't expect Megan, who's been known to give Kate a tongue-lashing or three, to have much sympathy for her beleaguered boss as they surreptitiously work together to solve the crime. "They don't always see eye to eye," admits Ryan. "So Megan helps but also just berates her."
As for shooting the romantic scenes with hottie Sergei, Ryan isn't complaining. "He was so much fun," she says. "Although it was funny because he stayed in character — and spoke in a Ukrainian accent — the whole time. Until they called 'wrap,' I'd never even met Ivan!"
