Bobby Brown turned himself in Wednesday to begin his jail sentence stemming from a DUI arrest, The Los Angeles Times reports. However, the singer may not be behind bars for long.

Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore tells the newspaper that, because of overcrowding, time off for good behavior and credit for "good time work time," Brown is unlikely to serve more than nine days in county jail. However, Brown's sentence could be influenced by his probation officer or a judge's order.

Brown, 44, was originally sentenced to 55 days in jail in February.

In addition to jail time, he also must complete an 18-month alcohol-treatment program and attend three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings a week for pleas related to drunk driving, driving with a suspended license and probation violation for a prior DUI incident. Brown was first sentenced to a day in jail and three years' probation for a March 26, 2012 arrest when he was pulled over for talking on his cellphone while driving. The second arrest occurred on Oct. 24.

He also had a DUI conviction from 1996.
