Dave Mirra, the BMX bike phenom who hosted two early seasons of MTV's The Challenge has died of an apparent suicide, multiple news outlets are reporting. At one time the most decorated athlete in the history of the X-Games, Mirra was found dead in his truck due to an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in Greenville, North Carolina on Thursday, according to law enforcement officials.

The 41-year-old hosted MTV's The Challenge from 2004 to 2005, guest starred on an episode The George Lopez Show in 2004 and was the face of a video game series, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX. He was also instrumental in bringing the BMX sport to Greenville, where the New York native relocated in the 1990s.

Fellow BMX rider and current host of The Challenge TJ Lavin posted a picture of himself, Mirra, Tim "Fuzzy" Hall and Corey Bohan in memoriam of their friend.
