HBO has renewed Real Time with Bill Maher for an eighth season. The political talk show will return Friday, Feb. 19, at its new earlier time, 9/8c with an encore at 11/10c.
"Bill Maher is a vital and provocative observer who cuts through the media clutter to offer a uniquely thoughtful outlook on the world," said Nancy Geller, HBO Entertainment's senior vice president.
Maher, 53, has been a hybrid of talk-show host/comedian/political commentator since he created Politically Incorrect in 1993. The show first bowed on Comedy Central, then moved to ABC from 1997 to 2002. Aside from serving as Real Time's ringmaster, Maher has also hosted six comedy specials for HBO.
Real Time's seventh season averaged 1.2 million viewers Fridays at 10/9c — 4.1 million viewers including repeats and on-demand.
