In the Season 3 finale of Bates Motel, Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) escaped from the basement where his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga) was holding him and ran off with Bradley (Nicola Peltz) — only to end up bludgeoning her to death.
Season 4 begins soon after as Norman wakes up in a field. After a confrontation with a farmer who finds Norman talking to himself, Norman winds up in the county hospital.
This is a worst case scenario for Norma, who in the Season 3 finale met with an administrator at a beautiful private mental hospital to discuss admitting Norman, but it would cost at least $20,000 a month without insurance.
She wanted to get Norman help on her own terms, and now that outsiders know about Norman's instability and have suspicions about her competency as a parent, she sees that she's losing control.
So she comes up with a plan to get Norman into the asylum she wants, and it involves getting Romero (Nestor Carbonell) much more involved than he wants to be.
Bates Motel premieres Monday, March 7 at 9/8c on A&E
