Barbara Walters may have stepped down from her day-to-day duties on The View, but her days as a journalist are definitely not over.

Walters has landed the first interview with Peter Rodger, the father of Santa Barbara shooter Elliot Rodger,ABC News announced on Monday. The interview will air as part of an upcoming special edition of ABC's20/20, as well as across various other ABC News programs.

Elliot Rodger made national headlines when he went on a shooting rampage in Santa Barbara, killing seven people, including himself, and injuring 13 others on May 23.

His father, who served as an assistant director on The Hunger Games, has since expressed sorrow for the victims of his son's killing spree, but has not yet talked publicly about his son's actions. Peter Rodger and his ex-wife, Li-Chin Rodger, have only spoken through a family friend and spokesman who appeared on the Todayshow May 29.

Walters recently retired from television news when she made her last appearance as co-host on The View on May 16.
