Meryl Streep received Best Actress honors in the homeland of the woman she portrayed in The Iron Lady. (Streep apparently lost her shoe on the way up to the podium, but presenter Colin Firth slipped it back on.)

The Help's Octavia Spencer took home Best Supporting Actress, and Christopher Plummer was named Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Beginners.
