Brand-new BacheloretteJillian Harris says a hot tub scene with The Bachelor's Jason Mesnick made her father's jaw drop, but she's opting not to clear the air about what happened — and called a query about the liaison "probably the most inappropriate question ever."
The hot tub hookup was one of three close encounters Mesnick shared with the final competitors on The Bachelor. He later said goodbye to Harris to choose — kind of — between Melissa Rycroft and Molly Malaney.
"I think that that's probably the most inappropriate question ever," Harris told TVGuide.com Tuesday. "I'm normally a really open girl about all these kind of things, but I mean it's one of those things that anybody can assume that if I had a steamy make-out session with Jason and I went in the hot tub that him and I quote-unquote did it. We can also assume that every Bachelor and Bachelorette in history has done it with people."
"I think being a 30-year-old grown woman who is very successful in her career and has a great background and great morals and great values, people can take a look at me and who I am as a person and they're entitled to their opinion."
Whatever happened — and again, she's not saying — Harris has no ill will for Mesnick.
"I honestly think that Jason is a really great guy... Even after he let me go last season, whatever steamy make-out session we had, I don't feel like he led me on. He's going through the process to make sure that he makes the right choices and sometimes a good steamy make-out session with somebody can enlighten you and say you know, I didn't feel that spark that I was looking for."
"Don't get me wrong — I'm not really offended," she added." I was actually waiting for that question and it's funny how it fires me up because I am doing something that's very public. ... But let's say I had slept with Jason. Then I don't think that's anybody's business. And let's say I hadn't slept with Jason. Then that also is nobody's business."
Harris also says she has no problem being the creator's third choice for The Bachelorette.
"I was a third choice on last season. I know what that feels like; I'm comfortable with that," she told TVGuide.com. "Honestly, I'm just a short little hyper quirky Canadian and I actually don't feel like I fit the mold of the Bachelorette very well and I was very surprised that they asked me."
Creator Mike Fleiss has said he approached Rycroft and Malaney for the show before turning to Harris. Mesnick proposed to Rycroft on the show, then dumped her in favor of Malaney, the runner-up. Rycroft turned down the opportunity, later appearing on Dancing with the Stars, and Malaney is still dating Mesnick.
"They're both very beautiful, talented, outgoing, personable girls, and just also me being placed third on the Bachelor sort of naturally places either one of them as the natural choice. So no, it doesn't make me feel like I'm third. It makes me really happy that they declined."
The Bachelorette premieres Monday, May 18 at 9 pm on ABC.
