Game of Thrones Stan Taylor Swift Reveals She Based an Entire Song on Arya's Kill List

Taylor Swift has a list of names (and yours is in red underline; sorry, we don't make the rules), but it turns out she received a little help compiling them from Arya Stark (Maisie Williams).

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly for a new cover story, the "ME!" singer revealed that her last album, reputation, was heavily influenced by Game of Thrones-- including the record's lead single, "Look What You Made Me Do."

"These songs were half based on what I was going through, but seeing them through a Game of Thrones filter," Swift said. "'Look What You Made Me Do' is literally Arya Stark's kill list," while "I Did Something Bad" was written, "after Arya and Sansa conspire to kill Littlefinger."

Fans have long suspected "Look What You Made Me Do" had some Arya influence. Some lyrics to consider:

But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time
Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time
I've got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined
I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!

As part of the interview with EW, Swift went deep on her love of Easter eggs -- and how she leaves breadcrumbs for her fans to theorize about throughout interviews, merchandise, and her song lyrics. It's a tactic, Swift claims, she picked up from Game of Thrones.

"My entire outlook on storytelling has been shaped by [Thrones] -- the ability to foreshadow stories, to meticulously craft cryptic storylines," she said. "So, I found ways to get more cryptic with information and still be able to share messages with the fans. I aspire to be one one-millionth of the kind of hint dropper the makers of Game of Thrones have been."

Swift's obsession with Game of Thrones is a relatively recent one; she didn't start watching the series until 2016. But she met Arya actress Maisie Williams and her Sansa Stark co-star Sophie Turner long before watching the HBO series. As Turner explained at Comic-Con in 2015, the pair of real-life friends went to a Swift concert together and were invited backstage.

"I guess she wanted to meet us and we really wanted to meet her so we just hung out with her for a bit. Played a couple of drinking games. It was awesome," Turner told E! online, before speculating on what would happen to Swift's music if she were to start watching Thrones. "I feel like her songs would become really depressing. I think we should get her to watch Game of Thrones. But all her songs would be about bad blood."

Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9/8c on HBO.
