A man who had two loaded guns in his car and vowed to be with Shawn Johnson "no matter what" was arrested as he tried to enter the Dancing with the Stars studio, according to the Olympic gymnast's successful request for a restraining order.
Johnson, 17, feared for her life after Robert O'Ryan, 34, jumped the fence Monday afternoon and was detained by security at the CBS Studios lot, where Dancing tapes, according to her family's petition.
Police later found "a loaded .45 handgun, a loaded shotgun, and materials classically used for kidnapping including duct tape, zip ties [and] a map" in the man's car, according to the petition.
Johnson, her mother and father, were granted temporary protection on Wednesday. The family had sought protection for Johnson's Dancing partner, Mark Ballas, but it was not granted.
O'Ryan, of Yullee, Fla., was charged with one felony count of stalking and two misdemeanor counts of carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office announced. He will be arraigned Thursday. O'Ryan was being held in lieu of $35,000 bail, but prosecutors will ask for bail to be increased. If convicted, he would face up to four years in state prison.
"He packed all his belongings, permanently left Florida to drive across the country because he believes the petitioner is speaking to him personally through the television and via ESP and that he will be with her no matter what," Johnson's petition said.
Johnson "is in fear of her life, she is extremely upset by this incident and her entire family and those around her are all extremely concerned and fearful that the Respondent [O'Ryan] might try to kidnap her or harm her in an effort to make good on his statements," the documents said.
Johnson, who is a favorite to win the hit ABC show, was told about the arrest after she danced on Monday, according to TMZ.
"The matter has been turned over to the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office," Johnson's rep, Sue Madore, said in a statement to TVGuide.com. "It is currently an ongoing investigation and we are confident that it will be handled appropriately by all involved."
A Dancing spokesperson also told TVGuide.com: "The appropriate authorities are handling the matter."
