American anchor Liz Wahl quit her job at RT-America in spectacular fashion Wednesday, announcing her resignation live on the air after her 5 p.m. news broadcast. "Personally I cannot be part of a network that whitewashes the actions of [Vladimir] Putin," Wahl said before walking off the air. "I am proud to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth and that is why after this newscast I'm resigning."

Quiz: Which celebrity is older?
RT-America is funded by the Russian government and Wahl told The Daily Beast she had had enough of falling in line with the narrative she was expected to follow when reporting on events such as the crisis in Ukraine. "They're definitely at the top, the Russians. They're kind of able to pull the strings," she said in an interview published Thursday. "I just think it's absurd that we're just a few blocks away from the White House and this is all able to go along."
Another RT-America anchor, Abby Martin, also spoke out on her program this week, denouncing Russia's military intervention in Ukraine. There have been no discernible repercussions from her comments.

In the wake of Wahl's resignation, RT-America released a statement calling her act a "self-promotional stunt," The Daily Beast reports.
"I don't think it's a service to anybody to push a narrative that's not true or actively twist the truth," Wahl told the Daily Beast. "It actually makes me feel sick that I worked there. It's not a sound news organization, not when your agenda is making America look bad."
