Road Trip! Is American Idol Headed to Sin City?

American Idol producers are mulling more changes to the new season, including taking the contestants on a road trip to Las Vegas and airing behind-the-scenes footage from the top 12 house.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say should the contestants head to Sin City, Idol will "integrate" Cirque du Soleil's Beatles-inspired show Love into an episode.

Producers are also contemplating tearing a page from the playbook of many other reality shows and airing footage and recorded confessionals from the Hollywood Hills house in which the contestants will live. The decision is said to hang on how entertaining that footage proves to be.

To bring the fans closer to the Idol hopefuls, producers are again considering allowing the contestants to chat with the public via Twitter from the house. (Contestants were allowed to tweet last year from their individual accounts but midway through the season the accounts were combined into just one Idol feed.)

American Idol moving to Wednesdays and Thursdays

Whether or not these additions come to fruition, Season 10 is already a season of great change. Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will join Randy Jackson on the judging panel. And in November, Nigel Lythgoe told TVGuide.com that the show would also eliminate the top 24 round and head straight to the top 12. He also revealed new challenges, including making the best music video and working with a band and dancers for an awards show-style performance. This year, contestants as young as 15 have also been allowed to audition.
