American Idol: The Best Group Performances from the Girls

American Idol highlighted the first Hollywood Week performances from the girls on Wednesday night, when several contestants were eliminated following solo and group competition.

As it did with the guys last week, the show breezed through the first solo and group rounds in its two-hour broadcast, focusing on the highs and lows. Predictably, once the groups were formed, tensions ran high. There were tears and vomiting, and lots of contestants left the judges thoroughly unimpressed by actually writing lyrics on their hands and arms to remember them (it didn't work most of the time). And of course, there were catfights. But, amid the chaos, there were actually a few good group auditions. In each of our favorite groups, all four team members advanced to the next round of solo competition.

Check out our favorite performances below. On Thursday's show, the pool of ladies will be whittled to 20 after the final individual performances, and an additional eight guys who were sent through last week will also be eliminated, bringing their total to 20 as well. At the end of it all, the final 40 contestants will be sent on to the Vegas round.

The Swagettes: Featuring standout contestant Candice Glover, who's a force to be reckoned with in her own right, The Swagettes jelled from the start and ended up wowing the judges with a sultry take on Blu Cantrell's "Hit 'Em Up Style." As the first group to take the stage, The Swagettes set the bar high for the rest of the competitors. Let's see how they do in the next individual round. 

The Dramatics: One of the bigger trainwrecks of the evening (at least behind-the-scenes), this appropriately-named group was dubbed "dysfunctional" by even host Ryan Seacrest, after diva Jannel Stinney outright refused to rehearse or even interact with her teammates. But, miracle of miracles, they all managed to make it through after much deliberation among the judges. (Despite a few of the members forgetting the words to The Band Perry's "If I Die Young" during their performance, they still "felt it," according to Nicki Minaj). Do you agree with their decision? 

The Misfits: One of the most tumultuous groups from the start (thanks mostly to Kez Ban's eccentricities alienating her groupmates), the appropriately-named Misfits shockingly somehow managed to get their act together when it came time to go before the judges. Their rendition of The Ronettes' "Be My Baby" prompted Minaj to say they were "the best group of the day." Do you agree?
