Joseph Fiennes is nearing a deal to join American Horror Story for the show's upcoming second season, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Fiennes, 42, would play the head of the mental institution where Jessica Lange's character works. The "tortured" character will also share a May-December romance with Lange's character. The Shakespeare in Love star follows recently announced Season 2 additions Chloe Sevigny, Adam Levine and James Cromwell. In addition to Lange, Season 1 stars Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe will also return, but they will all play new characters.
James Cromwell joins American Horror Story
The role would mark Fiennes' third collaboration with American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy. Fiennes starred Murphy's 2006 film, Running with Scissors, and in Murphy's 2008 FX pilot, Pretty/Handsome. Fiennes more recently starred in the short-lived series FlashForward and Camelot.
