AMC has given a series order to Preacher, an adaptation of Garth Ennis' popular comic books from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The first season, which is expected to premiere in mid-2016, will consist of 10 one-hour episodes.

Rogen and Goldberg (This Is the End, Superbad) will produce the series and Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) will act as showrunner.

Dominic Cooper stars as Jesse Custer, the title character who lives in a small Texas town and searches for God along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and Cassidy, an Irish vampire (Joseph Gilgun).

"Preacher is, above all, about great characters - something we look for in all of our series," Joel Stillerman, AMC's president of original programming and development, said in a statement. "The fact that it is also darkly funny, has some great supernatural elements, and takes us on an incredible adventure is just the icing on the cake. The incredible creative team behind this show ... made a pilot that completely blew us away, and we know the series will satisfy and surprise fans of the comics, and captivate fans of great TV everywhere."
