Teen Mom star Amber Portwood was transported to Indiana's Rockville Correctional Facility Wednesday to begin her five-year prison sentence, Us Weekly reports.
During the next two weeks, the 22-year-old will undergo a "diagnostic and evaluation period," a spokesman for the state's Department of Corrections tells the magazine. This period will help officials make a specific placement decision.
Teen Mom's Amber Portwood sentenced to 5 years in prison — again!
Although she can receive mail, the spokesman said she will not be allowed any visitors until this period is over and she has settled into her permanent placement.
On June 5, a judge reinstated the original, five-year sentence against the reality star after she chose to leave a court-ordered drug rehabilitation program. The program, stemming from a December 2011 drug arrest, would have allowed her to avoid serving time.
Teen Mom's original cast to say goodbye
"In my situation, I felt in the program there were a lot of eyes on me," Portwood told ABC News of her decision to leave rehab. "And it was very uncomfortable. I was not using my anti-psych medication, even," she shared. "I was very depressed, all alone, all bitter at everyone. I felt like that wasn't the life I wanted to live, I felt like I'd rather do my time and get it over with."
While in prison, Portwood plans to attend substance abuse classes and get her GED. Her daughter Leah Leann Shirley will be cared for by the child's father, Gary Shirley.
