Now that Playboy magazine doesn't publish nude photos anymore, the world is ready for a comprehensive look back at the life and times of 90-year-old Playboy founder Hugh Hefner — at least, that's what Amazon is banking on.
American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story is coming to Amazon Video next year. The limited series' 13 episodes will follow Hefner starting with the launch of Playboy in 1953 and contextualize how he and his magazine changed American culture forever. It will draw from 17,000 hours of archival footage and Hefner's Guinness World Record-setting personal scrapbook collection, as well as interviews and reenactments.
"Although Hugh Hefner is an iconic figure known worldwide, most people may not be aware of the impact he has had on some of this country's most important social revolutions," Amazon Studios unscripted content boss Conrad Riggs said in a statement. "We are excited to bring Prime members the untold story of Mr. Hefner's remarkable life and his contributions to modern American history."
Another Hef-mytholgizing documentary, Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel, came out in 2009.
If there isn't a Ken Burns effect pan over a photo of a naked woman, I will cancel my Amazon subscription.
