Alex Rocco, Godfather Actor, Dies at 79

Alex Rocco, the actor who played casino boss Moe Greene in The Godfather, has died at 79, The Associated Press reports. Rocco's daughter announced his death on Saturday, but the cause of death has not been made public.

Born in Cambridge, Mass., Rocco moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and studied under Leonard Nimoy. He is best known for his Godfather role, which culminated in his character getting shot through the eye while on a massage table.

His other film and TV credits include Get Shorty, A Bug's Life, Family Guy, The Simpsons (as the studio head of "Itchy and Scratchy") and The Facts of Life.

In 1990, he won a Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Emmy award for The Famous Teddy Z. More recently, Rocco had a recurring role on the Starz show Magic City.

Rocco is survived by his wife, a daughter, a son and a grandson.
