The Fox network announced that Alan Colmes, the liberal half of its news channel's popular Hannity & Colmes will leave the show at the end of the year.
Colmes is ready to move on from the popular show in order to "develop new and challenging ways to contribute to the growth of the network," Variety reports.
Colmes' co-host Sean Hannity was magnanimous about his partner's exit saying, "Not only has Alan been a remarkable co-host, he's been a great friend, which is rare in this industry." Colmes echoed the sentiment with, "I'm proud that both Sean and I remained unharmed after sitting side by side, night after night for so many years."
Colmes won't be disappearing from the spotlight anytime soon; he will remain as a liberal commentator for Fox News and continue to host his own show on Fox radio.
FNC chairman-chief exec Roger Ailes said in a statement, "We're sad to see him leave the program but we look forward to his ongoing contributions to the network."
Hannity & Colmes has been a huge success for Fox News since its debut in October of 1996. It has drawn the second largest audience of cable news shows, and is only second behind Fox's The O'Reilly Factor.
No replacement has been named as of yet.
Do you think Sean Hannity will find a new sparring partner as worthy as Colmes?
