House of Cards, Orange Is the New Black, Masters of Sex and The Americanswere among the first-year television shows that made AFI's list of the top 10 TV programs of the year.

This marked the first year a Netflix original series made the list. Despite the good news for Masters, the period drama replaced its fellow Showtime series Homeland, which failed to make the cut for the first time since it first premiered.
