ABC Cancels Uncle Buck After One Season

Will you miss it?

Kaitlin Thomas

ABC has passed on a second season of its summer comedy Uncle Buck. Series star James Lesure announced the disappointing news Wednesday via Twitter.

The comedy series, a remake of the 1989 John Hughes film of the same name, featured an all African-American cast led by Lesure, Mike Epps (as the titular ne'er-do-well) and Nia Long. Although it was not a massive hit in the ratings, the series, which was good but not great, was averaging a 1.0 in the 18-to-40 demographic.

Uncle Buck joins other remakes Minority Report, The Muppets, Limitless, and Rush Hour in the one-and-done pile. However, it doesn't appear as if the networks have learned their lesson regarding the viability of series that are remade, rebooted,or adapted from an existing property. Next season Fox will launch both Lethal Weapon and The Exorcist, while CBS will bring back MacGyver and Training Day.
