The series premieres on Easter Sunday
On Easter Sunday, NBC will premiere A.D.: The Bible Continues, the sequel to Roma Downey and Mark Burnett's record-breaking miniseries The Bible.
Set in Ancient Rome immediately after Jesus' crucifixion, A.D. tells the story of how Peter (Adam Levy) and the rest of Jesus' disciples continued to spread his message after his death, in the face of political persecution from Roman Governor Pontius Pilate (Vincent Regan) and High Priest Caiaphas (Richard Coyle).
Spring TV Preview: Get hot scoop on 32 must-see new shows
Sunday's episode, fittingly, shows the disciples visiting Jesus' tomb and discovering that it is empty.
From the looks of it, the 12-episode series is more Game of Thrones than Touched by an Angel, chronicling in gory detail the violent, bloody foundations of the Catholic church.
