50 Shades of Grey is one step closer to hitting the big screen.

Sam Taylor-Johnson has been selected to direct the adaptation of the best-selling book, Deadline reports.

Taylor-Johnson has previously directed one short film, Love You More, which went to Cannes in 2008, and the 2009 drama Nowhere Boy. In the latter film, she met her eventual husband, Kick-Assstar Aaron Johnson. Despite the couple's 23-year age difference, they became engaged in 2009 and welcomed two daughters, Wylda Rae and Romy Hero, before tying the knot in 2012.

Man of Steel and more must-see summer movies

In the 50 Shades of Grey series, which has sold more than 70 million copies, a 21-year-old college senior, Anastasia, begins a relationship with an older business man, Christian. Before directing, Taylor-Johnson was also known for her photography work, much of which explored human sexuality.

"Sam's unique ability to gracefully showcase complex relationships dealing with love, emotion and sexual chemistry make her the ideal director to bring Christian and Anastasia's relationship to life," one of the film's producers, Michael De Luca, told the site. "EL James' characters and vivid storytelling require a director who is willing to take risks and push the envelope where needed, and Sam is a natural fit."

Kelly Marcel (Terra Nova) wrote the script for the film version of 50 Shades of Grey.
