Lupita Nyong'o is an accomplished actress with an impressive resume that includes the Marvel blockbuster Black Panther as well as Jordan Peele's upcoming psychological horror Us. Plus, her impeccable style has made her one of fashion's brightest stars. But did you know that she's also really good at braiding hair?
In this charming exclusive sneak peek at HBO's upcoming 2 Dope Queens special, the Oscar-winning actress flawlessly demonstrated that very important skill while also detailing the embarrassing childhood story that prompted her to learn how to style her own hair.
"I learned to do my hair in braids because my mother only knew how to do one thing with my hair and it was not suitable," Nyong'o explained in the video. The style in question was a combination of four box braids awkwardly placed at the front of her head.
"I didn't have the length or the texture for that to look chic," she added. While it's impossible to imagine her looking anything less than perfect, her story is proof that we all have to start from somewhere.
2 Dope Queens stars Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson as they discuss a variety of topics including race, sex and hair journeys with their friends and favorite comedians. HBO's latest adaptation of their hit podcast is set to air new episodes in February and March. Catch the first one featuring Lupita Nyong'o Friday, Feb. 8 at 11/10c on HBO.
