Unholy Rollers Reviews

This fast-paced look at the roller-derby circuit stars former Playboy Playmate of the Year Claudia Jennings as Karen, a factory worker who quits her job and takes up skating, then becomes tops in the sport when she decides to ignore the staged brawls and violence and go for victory. Her fellow players hate her, but she leaves the audience always wanting more. UNHOLY ROLLERS is heavy on violence and four-letter words and short on character, but that seems to make the picture true to its source. Though filled with roller-derby action, it does manage to leave room for the usual exploitative elements of lesbianism and nudity. The producers had hoped to get it into the theaters before KANSAS CITY BOMBER (1972), another roller-derby picture with a larger budget, but the Raquel Welch starrer beat them to the punch.
