Based on a mystery story by the late Edgar Wallace, of prolific pen, the plot centers around the theft of bullion, which is supposed to be split three ways, but which is appropriated in its entirety by "The Terror," and the attempts of the thwarted two to receive their share of the loot after they leave prison. In the incidental plot structure are an old English house, a few murders, a mysterious monk and a minor love story. The developments are not always clear, but, it turns out according to formula. The most innocent-looking character is "The Terror."
