Dekker and musclebound sidekick Mazurki find themselves locked out of their hotel room because they haven't paid the rent. The clever duo use the fire escape and find a dead man in their room clutching a gold coin. To avoid being blamed for the murder, the pair set out to track down the real killer, and they encounter a trail of nightclubs, coin dealers, and more corpses. The mystery becomes so convoluted that there is never any clear resolution.
