This film delivers on its lurid title for B-movie thrill-seekers, but it also offers something more: an uncommonly sympathetic look at a world to which mainstream cinema rarely devotes serious screen time nowadays. As the film opens, Shady (Maria Ford), one of the strippers at the Paragon

Club, is suffering from a disturbing dream in which one of her fellow strippers (Lisa Glaser) gets brutally murdered at the climax of her club act by a masked woman with a razor blade in her mouth. Shady wakes up--with blood on her own mouth. LIVE GIRLS really isn't much of a mystery thriller.

Though the film is overrun with red herrings, the real killer's identity is none too subtly tipped early on. The film does deliver heady doses of steamy striptease eroticism, since the husband-wife team of producer Andy Ruben and writer-director Katt Shea Ruben cast real-life exotic dancers as

some of the Paragon strippers. The sequel improves on the first film with its more polished direction and script, but has a major flaw in its cast. In spite of its flaws, however, this is a rarity among low-budget exploitation flicks, an absorbing diversion for truly adult audiences.
