Ride the Wild Surf Reviews

Three young Californians--Fabian, Hunter, and Brown--pack their boards and head for Hawaii to take on the monster waves at Oahu's North Shore. In no time, each is involved with his own beach bunny: Hart has a yen for Hunter, although her mother despises surfers; Eden gets the all-too-intense Brown to lighten up; and Fabares persuades Fabian that there is more to life than hanging ten. Still, when the big contest that has brought the boys to Hawaii rolls around, the surfers are all business. Hunter is forced to drop out when his board breaks; Brown nearly drowns when the waves swell to 40-foot peaks; only Fabian is left to challenge last year's champion, Mitchum. Although RIDE THE WILD SURF is hardly compelling drama, its performances are more engaging than might be expected, and there's lots of outstanding surfing footage--not to mention the super-catchy title song by Jan and Dean.
