The last days of Christ are again put up on the silver screen with an all-star cast. Marais is the emperor's man in Israel, trying to keep the Jews from revolting. Rathbone (turning in the only effective performance in the film) is the nominal leader of the Jews, resentful of Christ's growing influence, and Barrymore (in probably the most bizarre piece of gimmick casting ever seen) plays both Jesus and Judas, both of them badly. There's nothing here that Cecil B. DeMille didn't do a hundred times better. Filmed in 1961 in Italy, the film was not released in Europe until 1964 and in the US until 1967.
