This documentary chronicles the rise and legacy of MerleFest, a community-driven fundraiser that evolved into a renowned music festival. Each year, tens of thousands of fans make the journey to Wilkesboro, North Carolina, a rural mountain town, to see their favorite Americana, Bluegrass, and Roots artists. After 35 years of growth, the festival is still a volunteer-driven fundraiser that honors Merle Watson, son of the late Doc Watson. Proceeds from the festival are used to support education locally, directly contributing to economic mobility in the area.
