Is a dramatization of the story of Richard Alexander Murdaugh, more commonly referred to as Alex Murdaugh, and the troubles he faced in the secrets kept to maintain his well off life. The third generation head of his family's law firm in South Carolina low country, he and his family were well respected but somewhat feared in the power they wielded for whatever their end goals. In trying to maintain his privileged life, he hid his drug problems and the fraud he perpetrated against many of his clients to support that drug use. He also did whatever he felt he needed to protect his family of his wife Maggie Murdaugh, and their two sons, Buster Murdaugh and Paul Murdaugh, and the Murdaugh name. That led to coddling the two boys, they, especially young adult Paul with an alcohol problem, often getting into trouble in taking advantage of the Murdaugh name and the power it held. These problems led to what would be Alex's biggest problem and for what he is arguably best known: being charged with Maggie and Paul's murders in 2021.
