Hellfire Reviews

Elliott is a gambler who turns to preaching when a minister saves his life. In attempting to build a church, Elliott tries to convince outlaw Windsor to give herself up so he can collect the $5,000 reward for her. She refuses to have anything to do with this plan even after Elliott saves her life twice. Windsor hangs up her guns and takes to the cabaret stage, but her performing career is cut short when her brother-in-law comes gunning for her. In the bloody climax, Windsor is wounded and finally repents. The McGowans, who scripted this strange sagebrush saga, owe a debt to W. Somerset Maugham; the film is basically Sadie Thompson gone West, played as much for laughs as for any other effect.
