The eccentric old woman Maude Chalmers used to be married to an undertaker, but her husband disappeared several years ago. Maude earned a meager living as a floral designer since that time. Hoping to supplement her income, Maude converts the former funeral into an inn. Maude's granddaughter Heather arrives at the beginning of the summer to live for a while with her grandma. Harry Browning and his mistress Florie book a room in the inn. Maude attempts to kick out the unmarried couple, but they insist on staying. While visiting a local quarry, the couple's car is pushed into the water below, where they both drown. Mr. Davis arrives at the inn to ask about his long-missing wife Helena, but he is soon murdered with a a pickaxe. Heather discovers Helena's necklace in the inn's garage, and she repeatedly hear her grandmother speaking to an unseen man in the basement. She gets the impression that her grandma is keeping secrets. Heather is right, Maude suffers from dissociative identity disorder. And her alternate personality happens to be a ruthless serial killer.
