Montgomery's portrayal of a leathery federal agent and Nazarro's skillful direction bring some grit to this familiar plot. To put an end to a smuggling operation during the gold rush days, a pair of undercover agents join the bandit gang. Teetering constantly on the brink of discovery, they work with the gang as heisted gold is shipped out of the country. With the needed proof, the agents send the crooked bunch up the river. Booth, in an underdeveloped role, convincingly plays a gambling hall lovely.
