Chain Reaction Reviews

Short version: See Keanu run. Long version: At a nonprofit energy research facility headed by Paul Shannon (Morgan Freeman), selfless scientist Alistair Barkley (Nicholas Rudall) and his team of idealistic eggheads come up with a way to turn H2O into cheap, clean, efficient fuel. Next thing you know, Barkley's dead, and his lab -- not to mention eight square blocks of Chicago -- has been leveled. Who should escape from the blast but brilliant young techies Eddie Kasalivich (Keanu Reeves) and Lily Sinclair (Rachel Weisz)? Eddie knows the secret of the special sound frequency that's behind the whole mess, which means the toothsome twosome are soon on the lam from, well, just about everyone: cops, hit men, FBI agents, CIA spooks and jackbooted thugs of all sizes and shapes. Director Andrew Davis (THE FUGITIVE) punches out the action sequences with frightening efficiency, and The Fugitive Guy keeps things moving -- so fast, in fact, that it's easy to get lost in the tangle of conflicting conspiracies. The whole breathless business feels as though it should be over about 15 minutes before it is.
