Bombshell Reviews

One of the best films to satirize the movie industry, this is a trenchant, witty, fast-moving send-up of 1930s Hollywood lifestyles. Harlow plays a ditzy screen sexpot who gets involved in a series of madcap escapades. She becomes engaged to a "marquis" who is arrested as an illegal alien; tries to escape the clutches of an amorous director; unsuccessfully attempts to adopt a baby (her family gets in the way); and goes on retreat to Palm Springs, where she falls for an upper-crust beau but is finally forced to decide where her heart belongs. This early precursor to SUNSET BOULEVARD and THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL was so inside that many people outside the movie business didn't catch the nuances, and it still packs a considerable comic punch.
