Split into two sequences, this feature-length cartoon is one of Disney's finest efforts, with attention paid to every animated detail. The first sequence deals with the madcap, aristocratic Mr. Toad of Kenneth Grahame's British classic The Wind in the Willows, a haughty amphibian who

thinks himself too good for such fellows as Mr. Pig and stuffy Mr. Rat. Toad, who is obsessed with planes and autos, lands through his own recklessness in trouble, debt, and jail, and his friends must rally to get him out and defeat the band of thieving weasels that framed him. The second segment,

concerning the emaciated Ichabod Crane of Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", is delightfully narrated by Bing Crosby, who also croons some eerie tunes with the Rhythmaires. Ichabod, the new schoolmaster in a small New England village, has a memorable Halloween night when he is

chased by the legendary Headless Horseman. For pure imaginative animation, this pell-mell race through forests and glens is still unequaled. ADVENTURE is superb family entertainment, though very young children may find the climactic sequence of the "Sleepy Hollow" portion too frightening. The two

segments have been released separately on videocassette.
